Grand Forks Curling Club was represented at the Juvenile Men’s Zone 1 Playdowns on Jan. 26-27 in Salmo by Skip Zane Bartlett, Third Evan Turgeon, Second Jordan Field, Lead Colin Anderson and Fifth Devin Anderson.
Three teams (Invermere, Trail and Grand Forks) were playing for one spot at the BC Provincials which is being held in Prince George, BC on March 7-10, 2013.
Our boys played 3 games, winning all three. Their perseverance and commitment is paying off. They played very well, with good communication and the ability to adapt to new ice conditions. They will be representing the Kootenays at provincials this year. Good luck and good curling!
Juvenile Team and their Competitive Curling Debut
Skip Evan Turgeon, Third Zane Bartlett, Second Jordan Field and Lead Colin Anderson competed in the Zone 1 West Playdowns on Dec. 18th in Nelson. It was an exciting day for them, their families and those involved in our Grand Forks Junior Curling Program.
They played 3 games, winning one and losing two. But this road trip was really about getting started along the competitive trail and experiencing curling at a different rink in another community. The boys were smiling and having a good time. Their game times were 9:00 am, 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm – that’s 3 games in 9 hours. At any age that involves endurance but let’s remember that this team is only 11-13. They were playing teams which included 15 and 16 year olds.
We are grateful to their coach Dave Bartlett and the extra time he has given to the team.
Meanwhile this team and others who are part of our Junior program practice and play every Thursday from 4:00 – 5:30. Along with Dave we thank Kim Bartlett, Mackenzie Field, Kevin Marks, Guy Dubeault and Gerry Foster for instructing our kids, ages 7-17.
